Sara Rose Children's Home - Zambia

TODAY:Sara Rose Children's Home in Kitwe, Zambia

Sara Rose Orphanage is home to 40 children who have been orphaned or abandoned. The children range in age from birth to fourteen years old. Most are full orphans (with no living parents). Sara Rose is one of only a few orphanages is the second largest city in Zambia, a country that has been greatly impacted by AIDS and has one of the largest percentages of orphans of any country in the world.

Our partners, the Mwansas, work closely with Social Services to help them with the overwhelming needs of children in the region. Sara Rose is also one of the few places that will freely receive children in any condition. Often times they have been given babies who are not expected to live. By God’s grace, many do, but others have spent their final days lovingly cared for by the mothers of the home. Our partners count it a privilege to extend the hands of Christ to those children who will never even know it in this life.

Currently, two HOB missionaries serve alongside Zambians as part of the Sara Rose staff helping provide for the spiritual and emotional needs of the children. Heart of the Bride provides for the ongoing needs of the children primarily through Child Sponsorship.

The home includes a campus school for preschool and kindergarten. Older children attend local schools and are part of the family of Church on the Rock where our partner, Edward Mwansa pastors.

HISTORY

Heart of the Bride began partnering in this ministry in 2006 after the Mwansas registered and began caring for children in a small rental house. We joined them at a time when they were praying for help to build the first permanent home for the children. Edward and Barbra lost many infants of their own, including a daughter named Sara Rose. They turned their grief into action and began this home in her name.

LOOKING AHEAD

In the near future, Heart of the Bride is committed to assist our partners in property improvements and development, including remodeling the original building on the campus and purchasing and developing a much needed recreation area adjacent to the current property.

The greatest pending need for the future is the educational plan for the children as they reach the secondary education level. It is our desire that each of the amazing children who live and grow in this home will have the spiritual foundations and economic opportunities to establish their own families and even adopt children as the model for orphan care in the next generation.
