Q. What is Over the Edge for Orphans?
A. Over the Edge is a signature fundraising event for Heart of the Bride that sends people rappelling down one of the most iconic buildings in Destin, the Legendary Marine. Not only is it a once in a lifetime experience, but it also raises money for a great cause – Heart of the Bride.
Q. When is the event?
A. Over the Edge will take place on Saturday, October 12.
Q. Where is the event?
A. The event takes place at Legendary Marine in Destin. Edgers will complete registration on site and get suited up. Edgers will then go to the roof of the building while their family and friends enjoy watching them rappel from the roof down to the ground.
Q. Who can go over the edge?
A. Just about anyone! Edgers must weigh between 100-300 pounds. Edgers under 18 years old must have a parental waiver and weigh at least 100 lbs.
Q. How can I sign up?
A. It’s easy! Visit our Over The Edge fundraising page to register HERE. Or, better yet, let me sign you up and email you instructions and the link on how to share your fundraising page via email and social media. Email Michael@heartofthebride.org
Q. I’m not sure I can raise the money?
A. Raising the money will be easy! We create a page that you can share with your family and friends via email and social media. They can make a donation on the web page that comes straight to us. You will be notified of the donation and we will send an acknowledgement letter to them that they can use for tax purposes as this is a tax deductible donation. You can also get creative! Set up a fundraising goal for your birthday via Facebook, organize a corn hole or trivia tournament; ask companies that you do business with for a donation.
Q. I can only go at a certain time on Saturday, can I pick my time?
A, Absolutely! We will do our very best to accommodate your schedule! We want you to participate and to be able to bring your family and friends to cheer you on as you rappel down the side of Legendary Marine. Should someone have a specific time, this information needs to be shared with the event director, at email@example.com
Q.What if I don’t meet my $400 fundraising goal?
A. If the minimum fundraising goal is not reached by the day of the event, you may provide a personal donation to cover the balance to secure your spot. All funds raised are tax deductible donations benefiting Heart of the Bride
Q. Does the $35 registration fee count toward my fundraising goal?
A. Yes! Essentially, you are contributing $35 toward your own goal and asking friends and family to help with the remaining. When you register, the $35 fee will be added to your fundraising page.
Q. What do I wear?
A. You’re going to be walking down the side of the building so wear good shoes. No sandals, slip-on shoes, slippers, flip flops, high heels or steel toed boots are permitted. The harness goes around your legs, waist and shoulders, so it is best to avoid anything too bulky. Long hair must be tied back. You will be given a pair of gloves and a helmet to wear while you rappel.
Q. Are costumes allowed?
A. Costumes are allowed but take more time to coordinate in the schedule. If someone wants to wear a costume, it is fine, just make sure that you notify the event coordinator with this information so we can add in some extra time to suited up and harnessed.
Q. Can friends and family watch me go over the edge?
A. Of course! We host an all-day View Party with an emcee, food and drinks to entertain your guests as you are training and preparing the rappel. Our emcee will announce your name and why you are going Over The Edge so your family knows when to stop the socializing and cheer you on!
Q. Do I need experience?
A. No experience required! When you arrive on site, you learn everything you need to.
Q. How long will I be there?
A. Registering, training and rappelling will take between 1 hour and 1.5 hours MAX to complete. The actual rappel lasts 5-15 minutes depending upon the participant.
Q. What if there is bad weather?
A. We should be able to continue the fun if it is just rain. We will only have a delay or reschedule if heavy rain causes people to lose their vision, lightening is observed nearby or heavy winds.
Q. Are donations tax exempt?
A. Yes, online contributions and checks are tax deductible. Heart of the Bride will automatically issue your donors a receipt for their gifts. This receipt can be used as support for a tax deduction.
